Update

Arg. I typed a whole thing in here, and when I went to 'publish' it erased it all! Here it goes again...
Not much new has happened here over the last week. The computer classes are going well, except for the power outages. :(
The only really new thing just happened today. I went with Sylvester to the market, and we bought a Kg of steak (they don't sell anything less than that). Fortunately Sylver is around to help me eat it. We each cooked a quarter of it for lunch - we each did our own thing, and had a taste of the other's work. I liked mine, quite simple, just fried it up with some onions. Sylver added tomatoe paste and pepper and things, it was quite tasty. Because preservation is problematic, we're going to cook the rest of it for dinner, then I won't have to worry about it going bad if the power goes out - which it probably will before too long.
Actually, the power seems to be on more and more often. Because of the AU (African Union) summit that is starting in a few days, they've been putting in a bunch of new generators, street lights, sidewalks etc. etc. It all makes a few areas look really developped... far more than the rest of the country. Not that I'm complaining, the power seems to be usually on in the evenings (really the only time of day I need it), so that is nice.
Anyway, I'll have something more in about a week!

Hi Liam, this is your cousin Virginia in Louisiana. Awhile back, my daughter decided I needed a "my space" page, http://www.myspace.com/stoc2000
at any rate one of the people who asked to be a friend was a young man from The Gambia, he is studying Araibic in Eygyt. I think he is missing The Gambia very much. I sent him your blog spot URL. and he really loved the photos. I think Gambian people are much friendlier than Eygptians. He asked if it was okay to write to you...his name is Alieu, I can also tell him to just add comments to your blog spot, though he did ask if he could email you...please let me know if it is okay...he was really, really happy to see pictures of the people there, and impressed that you would go to the Gambia and share your computer knowledge. This internet thing sure makes for a very small world doesn't it.

Did you know they used to leave New Orleans in the summer because people got sick and died from Malaria, right here in the USA? Glad they can fix you up quickly nowadays.

    Warm regards, Virginia

Hi Scoop - it's very good to hear things are going along well for you. Steak! That must have been a treat, and fun for you and Sylvester to sample each other's culinary creations. I attended a Baha'i conference in Halifax this weekend, and lots of people asked me to pass along their love and greetings: Ann Boyles, Elizabeth (& Michael) Rochester, Lena, Janet, among others.

Hi Liam . . . bet you never thought that having steak for supper would be worthy of space on your blog! Isn't life amazing? To solve your problem with having to retype everything, maybe you could type it in word, then copy and paste . . that way if it doesn't "save" properly here, you just have to copy and paste again! I know you know all this stuff, but sometimes it's good to be reminded! We had a great time at Black Rock on Saturday, but missed you and the rest of your family! Your Mom was in Bedford, you sis was studying for exams, and you are too far away to invite to the shore!

Walking on the beach this weekend I really missed you. :0(
You have always been agreeable to walking with your slow ole auntie - one of the many, many reasons I love you so much!
It is great hearing about your many experiments with food - from you own version of the 'egg hunt' to finding and cooking steak. You are becoming a Chef supreme.. and all that with one little pan & one little hotplate to work with.
Happy to hear you have made a good friend there. Doing even mundane things in company is so much better than feeling alone. No doubt you are teaching each other lots of stuff. Computer stuff sounds great too.
I am putting in really full days at work, as it is year end there, and because I am leaving for Ohio on Thursday. Suddenly everyone realizes their admin support is leaving in a couple of days... Suddenly I am in terrific demand! hahaha
Anyhoo, gotta go do laundry. (Bet your laundry is handled differently there than here) Everything that I need to pack seems to need cleaning first. Funny how that happens...
Love you lots. Consider yourself hugged!

Yes, he can definitly email me! There is a link on the blog for that reason. I'm really missing Black Rock, the 'shore' here is not the same, although most people would probably like it more, I find it to be quite alien.
